5 Essential Makeup Products for Effortless Everyday Beauty 💄

makeup

I’ve been doing makeup for awhile. My mother was actually a Mary Kay consultant for 15 years or so and, growing up in a house with all girls, I was always around makeup.

That said, I do think my mother instilled some good beauty philosophies in me from a young age.  Here are the ones that come to mind:

  • A healthy diet & lots of water will do wonders for your skin texture & complexion
  • Skin care is a must! Stick to your daily & weekly routines, moistures & sun protect often, avoid sleeping with your makeup on, and once you find the products that work for you, don’t experiment too much
  • Makeup is meant to enhance your natural beauty
  • How you speak & treat other people is much more important than how you look on the outside. Don’t be so caught up in how you look that you neglect being kind & compassionate. That’s true beauty!

As time has gone on, I don’t really experiment as much makeup and skincare-wise. I actually end up buying the same products again and again.

That’s not to say I don’t use color, try bold looks for certain occasions, or check out new products. As a matter of fact, I recently did a post on 3 gorgeous & affordable eyeshadow palettes that will help you to achieve any look. In short, I am happy to say I have generally found what works for me: my skin type, my age, the look I’m going for & what flatters my natural features, and is easy to put on, especially for everyday makeup.

I’m excited to put together several posts where I’ll recommend some makeup staples to you. You may have seen some of these in passing but I have recommended many of these to friends & family who had never heard or seen them before and ended up loving them. I think you will, too!

What are your top 5 makeup essential products? I’d love to know in the comments!

I kid you not, this smells like ROSES. Such a beautiful blush with light-reflectors in them. They’re so visible, you could actually forgo highlighter (I usually add highlighter still on the cheekbones & brow arch but just saying!). I even load some up on a crease brush and put it in my crease for a subtle, blushed look around my eyes.

If shimmery/reflective blush isn’t your thing, this is one of my favorite matte blushes (a little pricer but it last a very long time).

I can’t even remember the setting spray I was using before this. It’s that good and smells amazing…like florals. Yes, I love the packaging: pink to go with all my other pink products but more importantly, the dispenser provides a very light and even mist, which I love.

There are some setting sprays that can make you look oily rather than dewy: this is not one of them. I’ve lost count of how many times of purchased this product. If you haven’t tried it yet, I think you’ll fall in love!

I personally have dark, thick brow hairs. I love this slim pencil because I can very gently fill in hair-like strokes in sparse areas without having them look overdone. The spoolie brush at the other end helps to take the edge off and blend them into your natural brows. Like the previous product, I struggle to remember the product I was using before this. Once I found this one, I’ve never looked back and buy multiple at a time.

THIS has been so helpful in calming my dark circles! My dark circles have some purple-ish brown tones in them & I noticed when I’d put my concealer overtop just like that, I’d look sort of gray. Not anymore!

Now, I moisture first, put some of this on (the orange one for my dark circles), let it settle for a few seconds, then pat-blend with a makeup sponge. Then, I put my concealer overtop and pat that in with a sponge as well. Works so much better and I find this product more hydrating than a similar one I tried before. They have several colors–just choose the ones that is opposite the color of your dark circles on the color wheel and you’ll be looking bright-eyed in no time!

I have a lot of colors of this product–it’s that good! I was really drawn to matte looks for a long time but I really don’t like how drying some of them can be or when they emphasize lip lines.

ENTER THIS DREAM PRODUCT.

This product boasts:

  • 16 hr wear
  • has buildable color in a wide range of shades to suit many different skin tones,
  • if you are eating/drinking with this on, you may lose the gloss but the color will stay!
  • Not sticky or goopy
  • Not overly glossy/shiny–just enough to look hydrated

I am almost exclusively wearing this every day. Favorite shades are definitely Peppy (go-to “my lips but better shade”), Cheeky, & Lippy!

Hope you found this helpful.
