It’s officially summer! I write to you from the Sunshine State☀️🌴—the land of never-ending summer. Well, that’s not entirely true. It can get pretty cold in the fall & winter months.
But even so, it’s my first summer down here and man, is it hot and humid. I’m originally from the Northeast and moved to Florida from the Midwest which, like the Northeast, experiences all four seasons in their entirety. In my family, we’d put fall & winter clothes in suitcases during spring & summer, then one weekend when it starts getting cold, usually around Halloween and closing in on Thanksgiving, we spend a weekend making “the big switch”: everything that we had in our drawers went into the luggage and everything in the luggage came out to get us ready for the new seasons. Fun times and amazing how much you forget you own.
All that being said, my wardrobe was not suitable for this new climate I’m in so I did some shopping online and I am happy to report these pieces below have all worked out fabulously! I feel feminine, comfortable, and modest in these options and I whole-heartedly recommend all of them. Also, they’re all pretty easy to dress up & or down so they’re very versatile as well. Each of them has gone beautifully with both heels & strappy sandals, cute sneakers, and flip flops. I’m excited to show them to you!

I love the neck line on this. I personally do not have a very long neck so necklines that are slightly lower are more flattering on me. This hits in the zone right above where cleavage would show. Also the length is perfect for a shorter dress: right at the knee. I wore this to a church function recently with a longer black cardigan and a black belt at my waist with black heels—I got several compliments! ^_^
I’ve also worn this with the white cardigan below, a pink belt, and white comfy sandals. The material is light and this one comes in so many different colors/designs! I’m so pleased with this black & pink one that I’ll probably pick up a few more.
This light-weight cardigan is made of viscose & polyester but the crocheted design makes it nice & breathable, which is so necessary in this Florida heat. It is slightly see-through in the Ivory White color, which I personally didn’t mind.
I think the coverage is perfect and it does look nice fully open, just a few buttons done, or fully buttoned.
Okay, confession: I’m only 5’2″! I have heard & read time and again that styles like these can really help to elongate your figure. So, I took a chance on these & I’m so happy I did. Mind you, I did find these maybe half an inch longer than I would have liked when I have flat sandals, but I can easily fix that. With heels, these look so polished.
The material is light & breezy, the black & white color will pair well with other neutrals or a splash of color, it has pockets, and the wide leg can help to balance a figure that is a bit more top-heavy. If you’re a curvier girl, I’d recommend sizing up just to ensure the elastic waistband is comfortable for you.
This dress feels like butter on the skin and I absolutely love the design & colors! I think this is the most Florida dress I own now.
This is another dress with a lot of different styles and colors, ranging from prints, to fruit, to florals, and solid colors. POCKETS are always a win in my book and this one actually hits slightly below the knee but flares out a little bit.
I’m also a big fan of flutter sleeves. I think they look so feminine and delicate. I love this one for church, a date, running errands, shopping, or even the beach. Consider it a wear-just-about-anywhere dress.
